Rugby World Cup 2011, What Do You Think? - Have Your Say!

Published on 16 December 2011

The Rugby World Cup has departed from our shores for over six weeks now. There was excitement, passion and crowds in our streets like we’ve never seen before. Now that people have recovered from the World Cup, we can take another look back and see how we did as a host nation.

The latest statistics issued by Statistics New Zealand revealed that there were 133,200 international visitors who arrived in our country between July and October during the Rugby World Cup.

  • Did you get to meet and greet any of our international friends during this period?
  • What were they like?
  • Do you think we as a host country did enough to accommodate that large number of guests?

The countries where most of our visitors were from, according to Statistics New Zealand, were (in descending order):

  • Australia – 55, 200
  • UK – 19,100
  • France – 11,100
  • South Africa – 8,500
  • USA – 5,500
  • Ireland – 4,300

When spoiling yourself and travelling to a big event, it can be easy to spend money.  If it was me and I flew all the way to the other side of the world for an international event of such calibre, I would splash out!

  • How easily were you willing to part with your money in an international event, like the Rugby World Cup?
  • Do you think New Zealand should host another international event of this size anytime soon?

It would be interesting to see what you have to say about your experiences of this year’s Rugby World Cup. Leave a comment or two here or on our Facebook page!

Have your say!
